Biography
Virgil Eldon Peterson went home to be with the Lord February 13, 2010, at the age of 78. He was born in rural Rolfe to Harley Peterson and Charlotte Weaver Peterson on November 13, 1931.
Virgil attended Rolfe Community School and lived and worked on a dairy farm for a few years as a young adult. Virgil was drafted into the army and served his country for two years in Korea during the Korean War. He married Judith Ann Isacson on September 18, 1955. They moved to Armstrong, Iowa where Virgil worked for Iowa Electric Light and Power. Virgil and Judy’s two daughters were born during their time in Armstrong.
In 1963 the Peterson family moved back to Rolfe where Virgil worked for the Rolfe Iowa Electric Company until his retirement in 1992. He was an active member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Rolfe for many years.
Virgil enjoyed fishing, hunting out west, John Wayne movies and spending time with his family. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle. He will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, loving wife Judy, and several siblings. Left to cherish his memory are his two daughters Vicky Lockman of Fort Dodge and Shelley Armstrong (Chris) of Riverside, grandchildren Brooke Cejka, Brad Cejka, Jenna Cejka, Johanna Peterson, and Abigail Armstrong; sisters Evelyn McVay, Mary Sweet, Joyce Baker, and Brother Roger Peterson; sister-in-law Shirley Smith (Art) and several nieces and nephews.
In honor of Virgil’s love for the great outdoors the funeral will be casual/western dress. Virgil will be laid to rest next to his beloved wife Judy in the Rolfe cemetery.
