Ethel Egertsen, age 97, passed away on May 7, 2012, at the Pleasant View Home in Albert City, Iowa.
Ethel Cordelia Shaw was born on February 4, 1915, on a farm near Cornell. She was the daughter of Henry and Clara (Fosmark) Shaw. She graduated from Lincoln Lee High School near Rembrandt in 1934. She also attended Stewart’s School of Cosmetology in Sioux City, graduating in 1936. Ethel operated her own salon in Rembrandt. In 1938, she went to work at several factories in Iowa. On February 6, 1946, she married Martin H. Egertsen at Rembrandt. To this union, five children were born: Marlin, twins, Sharon and Karon, Joan and Eloise. Ethel worked on the family farm and at the Laurens Good Samaritan Home for nineteen years. She also worked at J & L Industries for eleven years. In 1985, she retired and moved to Storm Lake. In March of 2009, Ethel entered the Pleasant View Home in Albert City. In her spare time, Ethel enjoyed sewing, crocheting, knitting and tending her garden.
Survivors include her children: Marlin (Jan) Egertsen of Laurens, Karon (Larry Weishaar) Egertsen of Laurens, Sharon (Ed) Kasada of Omaha, NE, Joan (John) Shold of Roland and Eloise (Dean) Armstrong of Omaha, NE; seven grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren; sister-in-law: Isabelle Shaw of Storm Lake and many nieces and nephews.
Ethel was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Omer and Carl and sister, Catherine Hanna.
