Allen E. Shaw, age 93, of Laurens, passed away on Friday, May 31, 2024, at the Laurens Care Center in Laurens, Iowa.

Allen Eugene Shaw was born July 15, 1930, at the hospital in Emmetsburg, Iowa. He was the son of Everett and Frances (Young) Shaw. Allen was raised in rural Havelock, Iowa where he attended area schools. He married Cheryl Carpenter on October 29, 1950 at the Congregational Church in Humboldt, Iowa. They lived in Humboldt where he worked at Parsons Ford, then moved to Fort Dodge, Iowa where he worked for Goodyear Tire and Farmers Feed Mill. In 1956, the couple moved to a farm near Webb, Iowa and farmed until 1961 when they moved to Laurens. In Laurens, Allen worked as a mechanic for Dudley Implement. In the 1970s, he opened Shaw Repair and Wrecker business. When he closed the business, he drove truck for DeYoung and Sundblad Trucking companies until his retirement.

Allen loved to fish, hunt and play 500 and solitaire. He was a member of the Laurens United Methodist Church. While working with the Boy Scouts Troop 99, he was awarded the Order of the Arrow.

Allen and Cheryl were blessed with 5 sons: Gary, Randy, David, Tom and Kevin. They deeply mourned the loss of their son Randy in 1989.

Survivors include his wife, Cheryl of Laurens; sons Gary (Wanda) Shaw of Ankeny, David (Charlene) Shaw of Ankeny, Tom (Diana) Shaw of Laurens and Kevin (Maggie) Shaw of Lenoir City, TN; daughter-in-law, Debbie Shaw of Laurens; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-granddaughter; his sister, Velma Johnson of Emmetsburg; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Allen was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Randy; brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Judith Shaw; and brother-in-law, Marlin Johnson.
