Alma Cook, age 94, of Fort Dodge, IA, passed away on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at Friendship Haven in Fort Dodge, IA.  Alma Sarah Hansen was born on October 20, 1931, in Storm Lake, IA, to parents Theodore and Lucy (Rice)  Hansen.  In 1936, at the young age of four, she moved with her parents and siblings to Spokane, WA.  Alma started her education in a country school 80 rods from the log cabin she lived in with her family.  In 1944, she returned to Iowa with her family, where they lived with their grandparents in Lake City, IA.  She continued her education at the Fort Dodge school.

In 1950, Alma was united in marriage to Richard R. Cook in Fort Dodge, but they later divorced.  Alma worked various jobs throughout her life, including: Marso & Rodenborn Gloves factory, The Dariette, and S. S. Kresege.  In the fall of 1959, she moved to Albuquerque, NM, to work at the Bowling Alley and a department Store.  In 1960, Alma moved to Colorado Springs, CO, and worked at Sam's King Chef's and at three different assembly plants.  In the summer of 1966, Alma returned to Iowa, where she worked at the plant Bourn's and H.R. Donnelly Company.

From December of 1968 to June of 1969, Alma took a business course at the Manpower Development Training Act, and she received her G.E.D.  Alma returned to Fort Dodge to care for her mother and then attended Iowa Central Community College's clerical office occupation program.  She then got her job as night switchboard operator at Friendship Haven in 1983, and later worked on East Dietary until her retirement in April of 1997.

Alma loved to do genealogy work on her family and found a lot of family while researching.  She would help anyone interested in finding family members; it was a great passion of hers.

Surviving are Alma's two sons: Allan R. Cook of Ottumwa, IA, and David R. Cook and wife Janet of Carroll, IA; granddaughters: Stacy, Kimberley, and Jami Cook; former brother-in-law Robert Bastin of Enumclaw, WA; nine nieces and nephews; 29 great-nieces and nephews; 24 great-great-nieces and nephews; one great-great-great niece; and many cousins.

Alma was preceded in death by her infant son Theodore R. Cook; parents Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Ole and Lucy Francis Rice Hansen; sisters: Eva May, Mrs. Astrid L. Bastin; brother Vinsen L. Hansen; sister-in-law Edit Anderson; brother-in-law Arthur H. Anderson.

Funeral Service will be at 11:00 am, Thursday, August 20, 2026, at the Lampe and Powers Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 10:00 until service time Thursday, August 20, 2026, at the Lampe and Powers Funeral Home. Burial will be at 3:00 Friday, August 21, 2026, at the Lake City Cemetery.
