Anne L. Powers – age 88, of Pocahontas, passed away Thursday, Sept. 24, 2020, at her home surrounded by her family.

Anne Lucille Donahoe was born April 5, 1932, at Fort Dodge, Iowa. She was the daughter of Carl and Florence (Gahan) Donahoe. Anne graduated from St. Matthews High School, Clare, Iowa, in 1949. She went on to attend St. Joseph Mercy School of Nursing in Sioux City, graduating in 1952 as a Registered Nurse. On June 25, 1953, Anne was united in marriage to J. Maxwell Powers at Clare, Iowa. The couple lived in Eagle Grove before moving to Cincinnati, OH, where Max attended mortuary school and Anne worked as a RN in a neo-natal intensive care unit. Following Max's graduation in 1955, they returned to Iowa. In 1957, Max and Anne purchased the Rudolph Funeral Home in Pocahontas. They settled in Pocahontas where they raised their eleven children and were active supporters of the community and schools. Anne worked as an RN at the Mercy Hospital in Fort Dodge. In 1967, when the Pocahontas Community Hospital opened, Anne began working there as a RN, retiring in the mid-1970's. Max passed away in September of 2017 and Anne continued to make her home in Pocahontas.

Anne was a member of the Resurrection of Our Lord Catholic Church where she sang in the church choir for many years, Catholic Ladies Society, Catholic Daughters of the Americas, the American Legion Auxiliary, and the AmVets Auxiliary. She served as Director of the Pocahontas Hospital Hospice Grief Support for many years. Anne enjoyed golfing with Max and her girlfriends, traveling the world with Max to see their children, wintering in St. Thomas and spending time at Lost Island Lake. She enjoyed time spent with her many friends and she loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. Anne was known for her quick wit and for the countless poems that she wrote for family and friends over the years.

Survivors include her eleven children, Mike (Susan) Powers of Anna Maria, FL; Diane (Dennis) Ferguson of Pocahontas; Pam (John) Harr of Golden Valley, MN; Mary Anne (Bob) Fitzpatrick of Medfield, MA; Pat Powers of Pocahontas; John (Ann) Powers of Orlando, FL; Joe (Karla) Powers of Creston; Kenny (Jill) Powers of Pocahontas; Kathy (Andy) Hickey of Elmhurst, IL; Tim (Dee) Powers of Lisbon and Tom (Julie) Powers of Matthews, NC; 28 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and sister, Carole (Eugene) Lynch of Barnum.

Anne was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 64 years, Max; brother, Bill Donahoe; son-in-law, Al DeVaul; brother-in-law & sister-in-law, Dwayne and Joan Powers; grandson, Stephen Powers & three infant grandchildren.
