Bernadine B. Martin, age 102, of Pocahontas, passed away on Wednesday, June 14, 2023, at the Pocahontas Manor Care Center in Pocahontas, Iowa.

Bernadine Barbara Hronek was born on December 9, 1920, on the Hronek family farm near Pocahontas, Iowa. She was the daughter of John and Bessie (Mach) Hronek. Bernadine attended country school near Pocahontas and then Sacred Heart Catholic School. On November 12, 1936, Bernadine was united in marriage to Don Martin at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Pocahontas. The couple lived in Pocahontas for several years before settling on the family farm. Bernadine worked at the Ideal Café, Pine Room, Hansen Bakery, then as a farm wife and homemaker. Don passed away in 2004 and Bernadine continued to make her home on the farm. In 2017, she moved to the Pocahontas Manor Care Center.

Bernadine was a member of Resurrection of Our Lord Catholic Church, the Catholic Ladies Society and the C.D. of A. She enjoyed gardening, playing cards, crocheting and baking, especially kolaches. Bernadine also enjoyed listening and dancing to Polka, having attended the Polka Fest in Humboldt for many years. She especially loved living on the farm and spending time with her family.

Survivors include her daughters, Betty Hallberg of Pocahontas and Karen (Roger) Heun of Fort Dodge; sons, Donald "Butch" (Janice) Martin of Palmer and Dennis (Patti) Martin of Pocahontas; son-in-law, James Joachims; 14 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren.

Bernadine was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Don; daughter, Marilyn Joachims; son-in-law, Paul Hallberg; infant sister, Barbara; great-granddaughter, Andrea Sullivan, and great-grandson, Parker James Beaver.
