Bernard L. Johannes - age 85, of Pocahontas, formerly of Creston, passed away on Tuesday, July 14, 2020, at his home in Pocahontas, Iowa.

Bernard Loyd Johannes was born March 25, 1935, in Prescott, Iowa to Harold Donald and Mildred (Rogers) Johannes. He graduated from Cromwell High School in 1955 and went on to serve in the U.S. Navy from 1956 - 1958. On December 11, 1958, Bernard was united in marriage to Nellie Sandra Kay Ray in Stringtown, Iowa. They first lived near Cromwell and later lived in the Lenox and Corning areas, where Bernard worked for Omar Bread and Wonderbread in Corning. In 1975, they moved to Pocahontas where Bernard worked for Armstrong Machine Co. with Cliff Porter doing painting. Kay passed away in August of 2018 and Bernard continued to make his home in Pocahontas.

Bernard was a member of the Creston First Baptist Church. He was also a member at the Regular Baptist Church in Pocahontas, Faith Baptist Church in Fort Dodge and the Curlew Baptist Church in Curlew.

Bernard is survived by his daughter, Sandy Christensen of Fonda, sons, Daniel Johannes of Sanborn, Bruce (Emily) Johannes of Pocahontas and Quincy (Tricia) Johannes of Avon; son-in-law, Gary Neal of Pershing; 14 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sister, Lola (Doyle) Hembry of Creston; brothers-in-law, James Ray and Richard Ray, both of Creston; sisters-in-law, Joan Medell of Eugene, Oregon and Patricia (Denny) Marquardt of Springfield, Oregon and many other family and friends.

Bernard was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Kay Johannes in 2018; sons, Jay and Bernie; daughter, Jeanice Neal and his brother, Boyd Johannes.
