Celebration of Life Services will be held on Monday, July 5, 2021, from 2:00 P.M. - 4:30 P.M. at St. John ELCA Parish Hall in Pomeroy, Iowa.

Betty Jean (Wells) Kuhrt - age 85, of Pocahontas, formerly of Knoke, passed away on February 3, 2021, at the Pocahontas Community Hospital in Pocahontas, Iowa.

Jeanie Kuhrt was born August 25, 1935, and grew up on the Wells family farm, southwest of Pomeroy. She was the daughter of Harley and Emma (Albrecht) Wells. She was baptized and confirmed at Wesley Methodist Church. She attended country school in Butler township until her father died in 1947 and she, her mother and sister Irene moved into Pomeroy. She graduated from Pomeroy High School in 1953 and graduated from Buena Vista College receiving her two year teaching certificate. On January 29, 1955, Jean was united in marriage to R. Lee Kuhrt at St. John Lutheran Church in Pomeroy. After finishing college, Jeanie joined Lee in Fort Sill, Oklahoma where he was serving in the U.S. Army. In 1956, they returned to Iowa and settled in Knoke to farm and raise a family.

Jeanie was an active member of the St. John Lutheran Church where over the years she held many roles including - Sunday School teacher, serving in WELCA, and Rachel Circle. She worked part time at the Twin Lakes Bible Camp for 10 years, was a member of the Sunshine Club, Pomeroy Historical Society, Partners of the Pomeroy Library and volunteered as a Storyteller - as part of prison ministry. She enjoyed gardening, reading, baking, playing cards or trivia games, collecting Knoke memorabilia and especially enjoyed spending time with her children and families.

Survivors include her daughter, Gwen Kuhrt of Chanhassen, MN; son, Keith (Frances) Kuhrt of Pomeroy; daughters, Leslie (Jim) Franzmeier of Newell, Beth (Mark) Bandy of Murfreesboro, TN and Rachel (Jon) Olson of Pomeroy; seven grandchildren, William (Maria) Franzmeier, Ellen (Ben) Schulties, Ann (James Fisher) and Megan Bandy and Abigail, Jacqueline and Benjamin Olson; two great-grandchildren, Cecelia and Joseph Franzmeier and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lee; sisters and brothers-in-law, Faye and Wendel Stuart, Roy and Colleen Wells and Henry and Irene Massop and sister-in-law, Mildred Maguire.
