Beverly Jean Hopkins, age 87, of Pocahontas, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 13, 2026, in her home in Pocahontas, surrounded by her family.

Beverly was born on October 28, 1938 to parents Murl and Marjorie (Ralle) Leith in Ware, Iowa. When she was 10 years old, Bev moved with her parents and sister, Janet, to the farm one mile north of Ware.  She attended Ware Consolidated School for 11 years and graduated from Laurens Community School in 1956. She then studied education at Simpson College for 2 years and later received a bachelor's degree in education from Buena Vista College.

As a child, Bev enjoyed being with relatives and friends and was active in many activities such as roller skating, ice skating, horseback riding, 4-H club and basketball. It was a highlight when her Ware girls' basketball team played in the 1954 state tournament in Des Moines.

On June 19, 1960 Beverly was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart Donald Dale Hopkins. This union was blessed with three children: Michael, Steven, and Kristin.

Bev and Don enjoyed living and working on the farm and attending their children's and grandchildren's activities. As a teacher and a grandma, Bev loved helping children find their self-worth and creativity through art. Over her teaching career, she taught in Eagle Grove, Laurens, Havelock-Plover, and West Bend-Mallard. In 2007 Bev and Don moved to Pocahontas where they enjoyed their new friends and neighbors.

Fondly referred to as Grandma Bev by many, "GB" by her 10 grandchildren and "GG" by her 22 great grandchildren, Bev treasured her family above all else. She loved to play with them by acting out children's story books, making hollyhock dolls, creating pancakes in various shapes, playing tractors and cars, drawing, and painting pictures.

Bev was baptized and confirmed at the Ware Methodist Church. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Pocahontas for many years and was currently a member of Hope Church of Pocahontas and the Hope Circle.

Survivors include children Mike (Lori) Hopkins, Steve (Moira) Hopkins, and Kristi (Tom) Reimers; grandchildren Jena (Kris) Hauswirth, Andrew (Christina) Hopkins, Jaime (Carter) Peterson; Jess (Patrick) Frank, Anna (Trenton) McNeel, Molly (Devon) Weidauer, Joe Hopkins, Riley (Gabriel) Killian; Sarah Reimers, Laura (Jordan) Warnock and 22 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Don, her parents Marjorie and Murl Leith, sister Janet Block, sisters-in-law Donna Schendel and Lucille Hopkins, niece Debbie Schendel, nephews Ted Hopkins and Bobby Hopkins, brothers-in-law Earl Hopkins, Robert Hopkins, and Richard Block, father-in-law Earl Hopkins and mother-in-law Naomi Hopkins.
