Bonita McChesney, a vibrant spirit who danced through life's melodies, bid her final adieu on August 24, 2023, at Accura Healthcare (Shady Oaks) in Lake City, Iowa. She was 84 years young and left behind a legacy as colorful as the notes of a cherished tune.

Bonita Darlene Davis, the youngest amidst a tapestry of siblings, was born on September 19, 1938, to Fred and Myrtle Davis on their family farm near Jolley, Iowa. Bonita's childhood was a symphony of joy and adventure, where the farm became her playground. Frequent family gatherings consisted of playing music in the barn, which was a cherished memory in her life. The cadence of her days echoed with chores and the hoofbeats of her beloved horse, Mickey.

Educated in the gentle embrace of Jolley's grade school, Bonita bloomed into a young woman, her radiance earning her a place on the homecoming court. But life had greater orchestrations in store. It was on the smooth floors of a roller-skating rink that she met her destined partner, Harold. Their love story, written in the twirls and spins of skates, culminated on January 6, 1957, in the harmonious chords of marriage.

Their life together composed a chorus of six beautiful children: Judy, Jimmy, JoAnn, Brenda, Bonnie Jean, and Becky. A conductor of care, Bonita dedicated herself to nurturing young hearts as an in-home daycare provider until her well-earned retirement in 2007.

Music was the beating heart of Bonita's life. With her accordion in hand, she, her husband Harold, and her mother Myrtle formed the Western Trio Band, serenading audiences for over two decades. Their music united souls, creating harmonies that linger in memories. When not playing music, Bonita and Harold indulged in the joy of discovery, traversing bowling lanes and flea markets, buying and selling antiques and treasures.

Bonita created a life dedicated to the community. Her rhythm was felt as a Girl Scout Leader, volunteering at Central School and crafting floats that wove magic into parades. Her passions danced as she baked, played cards, tended her flower garden, and found solace in singing and dancing.

As we bid farewell to Bonita McChesney, we remember not the final note, but the harmonious melody of a life lived fully, passionately, and unconditionally.
