Bonnie was born in Logan, Iowa, on May 30, 1932, to Walter and Lottie (Grinnell) Hughes, the youngest of ten children. She attended school in Logan and began working at Fitch's Café where she met the love of her life, Glenn (Holly) Holland, who had recently returned from military service. Three months later, they were married and have enjoyed 73 wonderful years together. This marriage was blessed with six children.

They began their married life in Logan but shortly thereafter moved to Council Bluffs before settling in Pomeroy where Holly worked as depot agent for eleven years and then in the offices of Hunt Truck Line. After all of the children were in school, Bonnie started working at Behrends Store in Pomeroy and later as the city water clerk. In 1985, the truck line moved them to Little Canada, Minnesota, where Bonnie worked at American Express and was top salesperson at The Dress Barn.

The couple retired in 1990 and spent nearly three decades enjoying Twin Lakes for the summers and Florence, Arizona, for the winters. Bonnie loved this time in their lives, especially enjoying family gatherings at the lake as well as when family and friends came to visit them in Arizona. The Hollands and their friends were well-known for their daily patio parties in those years and also for their love of playing cards!

Bonnie was a very social person who was active in the EZ-Does-It Club, Mothers' Moments to Mingle, Red Hats, St. Mary's Altar Society, card club, and many other activities. She was always supportive of her children's activities and was known for the treats she liked to furnish. Bonnie didn't believe in a meal that didn't end in dessert!

Later in life, the couple moved to Arlington Place in Pocahontas where they met many new friends and took full advantage of all of the fun activities. Her family continued to be the driving force in her life. She never tired of sharing family memories, especially the funny stories. Her Catholic faith was also of primary importance to her, sparked by her participation in the Cursillo movement.

Bonnie Jean Holland, 91, passed away on Sunday, July 23, 2023, as the result of a stroke.

She is survived by her loving husband; children, Deb Mefferd of Pocahontas, Scott (Rachael) Holland of Pomeroy, Michelle (Bruce) Johnson of Fort Dodge, Jack (Mary) Holland of Cheyenne, WY, Tony (Ellie) Holland of Johnston, and Brad (Joe Raetz) Holland of Des Moines; sister, Lottie Nelson of Storm Lake; eleven grandchildren, Shana (Brent) Weidauer, Erika (Bob Boudreau) George, Mindy (Jon) Wellik, Nathan (Matira Balsley) George, Josh (Nikki) Holland, Jordan Mefferd, Jamie (Shaun) Johnson, Shaun Holland, Callista (Manuel) Muzquiz, Nick (Ellie) Holland, and Taylor (Nik) Rodriguez; twelve great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; numerous step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son-in-law Al Mefferd and daughter-in-law, Shelley Holland; sisters and brothers-in-law Marcella (Hank) Chamberlain and Ila "Dot" (Harlow) Graves; brothers and sisters-in-law Lyle (Veva) Hughes, Donald "Mike" (Margaret) Hughes, Clyde (Vera) Hughes, Glen (Genevieve) Hughes, Calvin (Esther) Hughes, Carl "Bucky" (Gladys) Hughes; and sister in law Marie Hughes.
