Brad E. McIlrath, age 65 of Marshalltown, IA, formerly of Lake City, IA, passed away on Sunday, May 8, 2022, at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown. Brad E. McIlrath was born on December 20, 1957, to parents Gordon E. and Mary (Moylan) McIlrath in Davenport, IA. Brad was the second child born and had an older brother Jeff E. and younger siblings of Joel E., Ann Marie, and David E. They later moved to Lake City, IA, where Brad was baptized and confirmed at the St. Mary's Catholic Church. He attended grade school and graduated from Lake City High School with the class of 1976. On January 17, 1977, Brad enlisted to serve his country in the United States Marine Corps where he earned the rank of Corporal as a Demolition Specialist doing tours in in Beirut, Lebanon. He later became a Military Policeman and was injured in London England while protecting an US embassy requiring him to obtain his honorable discharge.

Brad married Julie Light in Rockwell City, IA, and to this union was blessed with two children: Jared and Casey, they later divorced. He then was united in marriage to Beth Renee Pitzen in Iowa City, IA. After his discharge from the USMC, Brad continued working as a construction worker with Behanish Construction in the Des Moines, IA area. After construction, he started his new career in making pizza for the world-famous Caseys General Stores. In his free time, he enjoyed golfing and fishing. He was an amazing father, very giving, and always positive. Brad will also be remembered for his many puzzle art donations to the children's hospital in Des Moines.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife Beth McIlrath of Marshalltown, IA; children: Jared McIlrath of West Des Moines, IA, and Casey McIlrath of Ankeny, IA; grandchildren: Shawn Junior Magnuson and Camdien Magnuson; brothers: Joe E (Lori) McIlrath of Arlington, WI, and David E McIlrath of Arlington, WI; sister Ann Marie (Bill Parysz) McIlrath of Biloxi, MS; sister-in-law Connie McIlrath; many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

Brad was preceded in death by his parents and brother Jeff.
