Carol B. Shimon – age 84, of Pocahontas, passed away on Thursday, May 14, 2020, at the Pocahontas Manor Care Center in Pocahontas, Iowa.

Carol Beth Strong was born on July 18, 1935 Southeast of Plover, Iowa. She was the daughter of Mike and Velma (Henderson) Strong. She graduated from Plover High School in 1953. On July 12, 1969, Carol was united in marriage to Darwin Paul Shimon at the St. Peter and Paul's Catholic Church in Pocahontas. The couple lived in Havelock and Pocahontas throughout their life. Carol worked as a secretary to the Superintendent of Plover High School for three years, then at the Pocahontas County ASCS office for 14 ½ years as chief clerk and then acting office manager. After their first child was born, she became a homemaker.

Carol was a member of the Resurrection of Our Lord Catholic Church. She was also a member of the AmVets, Havelock Women's Club, Red Hat Society and a past matron of the Eastern Star. She volunteered as the Havelock Housing Treasurer and at the Havelock-Plover Community School. Carol enjoyed sewing, crocheting, quilting, gardening and family history. Carol treasured the time she spent with her family and professed that her kids and grandkids were the highlights of her life.

Survivors include her husband, Darwin of Pocahontas; children, Bret Shimon of Council Bluffs, Becky Dvorak of Norwalk and Sandra Shimon (husband, Alex Smith) of Orlando, FL; grandchildren, Caitlyn and Teyla Dvorak; brother, Dean Strong; sister-in-law, Diane Strong and niece and nephew, Dena Strong and David Strong.

Carol was preceded in death by her grandparents, Charles and Myrtle Henderson; parents, Philander "Mike" and Velma Strong; and sister, Naomi Wood.

PRIVATE FAMILY  FUNERAL SERVICES WILL BE HELD ON TUESDAY, MAY 19, 2020, AT THE POWERS FUNERAL HOME IN POCAHONTAS WITH MSGR. MICHAEL SERNETT OFFICIATING.  BURIAL WILL BE HELD AT THE CALVARY CEMETERY IN POCAHONTAS.
