Carolyn E. Mefferd - age 76, of Gilmore City, passed away on Friday, August 14, 2020, at her lake home at Twin Lakes.

Carolyn Edna Andersen was born October 1, 1943 in Storm Lake, Iowa. She was the daughter of Oswald and Vera (Nordstrom) Andersen. She graduated from Aurelia High School in 1962 and then attended Iowa State Teacher's College in Cedar Falls for one year. She transferred to Buena Vista College in Storm Lake, graduating in 1966. She was a second grade school teacher in Webster City for several years. On August 30, 1970, Carolyn was united in marriage to Richard Mefferd in Alta. The couple lived in Pocahontas for a short time before settling on the Mefferd family farm, where they farmed and raised their family. Carolyn was a homemaker and she continued to teach as a substitute teacher.

Carolyn was an active member of the Evangelical Covenant Church, the Covenant Women Ministries, Bible Studies and was very active with the PEO. She enjoyed flowers, working crossword puzzles and watching game shows. Carolyn especially enjoyed the time she spent at their lake home and spending time with her grandchildren. Carolyn and Richard would have celebrated 50 years of marriage at the end of August 2020.

Carolyn is survived by her husband, Richard; her children, Jamie Mefferd of Pocahontas, Troy (Holly) Mefferd of Pocahontas, Ryan (Lisa) Mefferd of Charlotte, N.C. and Aaron (Brooke) Mefferd of Pocahontas; 3 grandchildren, Khloe, Ava and Ellie; adopted grandchild, Bailey Vainreb; brother, Orlyn "Big O" (Diana Sorensen) Andersen of Aurelia and sister, Marilyn Haskins of Delaware. Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents.
