Charles "Chuck" W. Levene passed away peacefully on September 1, 2021, surrounded by his family at age 82, after a valiant struggle with cancer.

Chuck was born on his family farm near Ware to parents, Martha and Walter Levene. He graduated from Pocahontas High School and proudly served in the US Air Force National Guard.

Chuck began farming the family farm at age 19. He loved farming, enjoying each challenge and opportunity as it came. He found joy in corn, soybeans and livestock, especially hogs that he raised from farrow to market.

A special partnership was created when Chuck married the love of his life, Alice. They worked and played together celebrating 61 amazing years. They shared farming, crafting and many hobbies and interests. Together, they were a great team. They moved off the farm and into Pocahontas in 2003. When Chuck retired from farming in 2005, he began constructing custom wood creations including frames and unique craft pieces to support Alice's crafting business, decorative segmented bowls and jugs turned on a lathe and intricate toy trucks. He enjoyed incorporating a variety of woods together for each unique piece. Chuck had an engineering mind. He was able to figure out, build and repair many wood, crafting and home projects as well as farm equipment and machinery.

Chuck was active in the Pocahontas community. He served on the Pocahontas Cooperative Elevator Board for 18 years. He had many leadership roles at St. Peter Lutheran Church, serving on the church council for over 20 years and lending a hand with many property committee projects.

Chuck and Alice took many trips to visit children and grandchildren in upstate New York, Michigan and North Carolina. Traveling adventures included Norway, Alaska and Hawaii, Washington DC and many winters in Arizona with more dear friends. At home, they often golfed and played cards with friends.

Chuck and Alice are the proud parents of Terri (Jeff) Pries, Brian Levene and Julie (Mike) Lukavsky; grandparents to Andrew (Sarah), Eric (Carley, fiancée) and Adam Pries; Grant, Nolan, Brigham and Isabella Levene; Aly Balbuena, Austin, Leah (Greyson) Perry, and Jared (Bailey) Lukavsky; and great-grandparents of Jackson Balbuena.

Chuck is also survived by his sister, Marilyn Johnson; sisters-in-law, Eileen Stoulil and Irene (Dutch) Leonard; several nieces and nephews; and many dear friends who were like family.
