Charles A. Shimon, age 93, of Pocahontas, passed away on Friday, January 24, 2025, at Arlington Place in Pocahontas, Iowa.

Charles Albert Shimon was born February 7th, 1931, in Pocahontas, Iowa, son of Albert and Charlotte Cavanaugh Shimon. He passed away peacefully on January 24th, 2025, at Arlington Place where he and his wife, Mary Ann (Schroeder) Shimon, have resided since October 2023. Chuck and Mary Ann were married 72 years ago in Sacred Heart Catholic Church on January 28, 1953, and were thankful for a lifetime of love! Chuck attended Sacred Heart Catholic School and graduated with his class of 1948. He continued his education at the University of Notre Dame for two years and completed his Bachelor of Science degree graduating from the University of Iowa. Chuck was a member of Phi Kappa, a Catholic fraternity. He was drafted by the US Army to serve during the Korean War. He and Mary Ann returned to Pocahontas in 1954 where Chuck began his career in auto sales. Chuck was a great sports enthusiast. Family trips to Minneapolis for Twins baseball games and trips to Leech Lake to fish, boat and water ski were fun family times. He participated in baseball and basketball throughout high school, but it was the game of golf that he loved playing with friends and family into his golden years. Chuck and Mary Ann spent several winters golfing with friends in Florida and later their winters were spent in Arizona with their sons' families. While visiting Chuck's daughter's family in Omaha he would always find time to try his luck at the Horseshoe Casino.

Chuck was a lifetime member of Knights of Columbus, The American Legion and Catholic Order of Foresters.

Chuck is survived by his wife, Mary Ann; daughter, Carolyn (John Drelicharz) and son, Edward (Debra), 8 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Charlotte, his parents-in-law, Frank and Agnes Schroeder; his son, Thomas and grandson, Chad; son, Callen; brother, Howard and sister-in-law, Marian; sister, Dorothy and brother-in-law, Dr. Paul Cawley; sister, Jane and brother-in-law, Dr. George Ferris.

Our family is grateful for the loving care received from the remarkable staff at Arlington Place and the St. Croix Hospice caregivers. We are also grateful for the warm friendship shared by all the residents.
