Christy M. Kral, age 63, of Des Moines, formerly of Rolfe, passed away Friday, May 9, 2025, at MercyOne Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.

Christy Marie Shimon was born December 11, 1961, in Fort Dodge, Iowa. She was the daughter of George and Kathleen (Miller) Shimon. Christy was raised on the family farm and graduated from Havelock-Plover High School in 1980. Following high school, she worked at a care center in Storm Lake as an aid. She received CNA training in Marshalltown, then moved to Macon, Georgia where she earned her Associates in Nursing. In 1989, she moved to Des Moines where she worked at Mercy Medical Center and earned her Bachelors in Nursing. At Mercy, she worked in the neo-natal unit, as a regular floor nurse, in the dialysis unit and as a flex nurse. On June 22, 1996, Christy was united in marriage to Douglas Kral in Lytton, Iowa. The couple settled in Des Moines. In 1999, Christy began working for Dr. Justin Bann as a GI Nurse. She  returned to Mercy Medical Center in 2001 as a flex nurse and in the endoscopy unit. She retired in 2017.

Christy was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Des Moines, the Rosary Society, the Nursing Association and the American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed knitting, kittens, puzzles and genealogy. Christy was a caring nurse, and a loving and devoted mom.

Survivors include her husband, Douglas, of Des Moines; son, Jessie Kral of Des Moines; mother, Kathy Shimon of Rolfe; siblings, Wanda (Bryan) Rittgers of Havelock, Sheryl (Mark) Detert of Pawleys Island, SC, David (Elizabeth) Shimon of Granada, MN, and Brian (Amy) Shimon of Havelock; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Steve and Betty Kral of Jolley; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Tim (Gloria) Kral of Jolley, Tracy (Randy) Fox of Brighton and Cindy (Chad) Beneke of Dakota City, and many nieces and nephews.

Christy was preceded in death by her father, George Shimon.
