Daniel F. Orwig – age 66, of Rolfe, passed away on Monday, July 6, 2020, at his home in Rolfe, Iowa.

Daniel Francis Orwig was born to C.F. "Barney" & Isabel Van Alstine Orwig on December 14th, 1953. He grew up between West Bend and Rolfe where he helped on the family farm. He graduated from West Bend High School in 1972. He attended Iowa Lakes Community College where he enrolled in Farm Equipment Mechanics. He worked for W.H. Goodrich, Robinson Equipment, Robinson/Pohlman, Winkleblack/Williams. In 1985, he started work with K.C. Nielsen in Humboldt where he worked as a mechanic, CSR, & Service Manager before retiring in 2018.

In 1976, Dan was united in marriage with the love of his life, Karen Smith of Emmetsburg. Together they made their home in Rolfe.

Dan was a member of the Rolfe Fire Department since 1973. He also was a member of the Rolfe Pullers, and served as a Rolfe city council member for several years. He enjoyed Hunting, Fishing, and spending time with his family. He looked forward to their annual trips to Minnesota every year.  Dan took pride in his yard and garden. He loved to tinker in his garage and fix anything he could find. We always said he could make "a silk purse out of a sows ear." His laugh was infectious and whistle could be heard for miles.

Survivors include his wife, Karen of Rolfe; Sarah (William) Kmieciak of Laurens; Aaron (Sonia) Orwig of Rolfe, Charity Orwig of Rolfe; and Isaiah (Holly) Harrington of Pocahontas. Six grandchildren, Ashley (Corey) Stewart, Hailey (Trent) Banwart, Hannah King, Scarlette, Tucker & Charlie Harrington; and Four great-grandchildren, Karmen & Harper Stewart, Charlette Douglas, and Declan Banwart. His life long friend, Paul Kipfer, of Gilmore City; Brother, John (Nancy) Orwig of Buffalo, WY; Becky (Roger) Arnburg of Sioux City; Pat (Bill) Alexander of Laurens and Tim Orwig (Alan Hesse) of Wareham, MA; as well as many beloved nieces and nephews and family friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Mary Miller, and mother & father in-law Gordon and Elaine Smith, sister-in-law Cathy Peters; and brother-in-law Tom Smith.
