Darleen J. Zinnel, age 95, of Pomeroy, passed away Friday, August 21, 2026, at the Kavanagh Hospice House in Des Moines, Iowa.

Funeral Service is 10:30 AM, Saturday, August 29, 2026, at St. John Lutheran Church in Pomeroy, Iowa. Burial will be held in Union Cemetery in Pomeroy. Visitation is 4 - 6 PM, Friday, August 28th, at St. John Lutheran Church in Pomeroy.

Darleen Juanita Fouts was born April 24, 1931, at her parents' home in Rockwell City, Iowa. She was the daughter of Harlan and Ella (Gerjets) Fouts. In her youth, Darleen worked for the Rockwell City grocery store and drug store, which she cherished. She graduated from the Rockwell City High School in 1949, and on June 5, 1949, she was united in marriage to Marvin Zinnel at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Rockwell City. The couple lived near Rockwell City where they farmed. They settled on the farm near Pomeroy in 1960 where they raised their 6 children and Darleen helped with the farming operation. In addition to farming, she worked part-time for the Manson and Knoke bars. Darleen and Marvin retired from farming in 1989. Marvin passed away in 2013, and Darleen moved into Pomeroy that same year.

Darleen was a devoted wife and mother, and was a member of St. John Lutheran Church and the Ladies Circle. She loved going dancing with her husband, playing cards, bowling and going to kids' and grandkids' activities.

Survivors include her children, Rebecca Meyer of Norwalk, IA; Deborah (Don) Greene of Knoke, IA; Michele (Orlen) Greene of Rapids City, IL; Douglas (Kelli) Zinnel of Pomeroy, IA and Tammara O'Tool of Pomeroy, IA; 15 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren, and her niece, Nancy Klaassen.

Darleen was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Zinnel; son, Jeffrey Zinnel; parents, Harlan and Ella Fouts; son-in-law, Patrick Meyer; brother, Lester Fouts; sister, Lucille Knisley, and 2 nephews and 1 niece.
