Darlene L. Goerner – age 94, of Laurens, passed away Saturday, April 30, 2022, at the Laurens Care Center in Laurens, Iowa.

Darlene Lucille Hoffert was born on May 18, 1927, on a farm near Plover, Iowa. She was the daughter of John "Jack" and Cora Estella "Stella" (Young) Hoffert. She spent her early school years near Ware, Iowa. The family moved into a rural county school her father converted into their home in Pocahontas. She graduated from Pocahontas High School in 1945. In 1945, on her 18 ^th birthday she was united in marriage to Reynold R. Goerner of Albert City. They lived and cared for their family until 1959, when they moved to Laurens. Darlene had many part-time jobs as she and Ray loved and cared for their children and extended family. Ray passed away in 1991 and Darlene continued to make her home in Laurens.

Darlene was member of the United Methodist Church, the church circle and the V.F.W. Auxiliary of Laurens. She enjoyed square dancing, playing cards, antiques and gardening. She especially enjoyed a trip she took to Europe.

Survivors include her children, Raylene (Dale) Wilson of Urbandale, Linda (John) Biris of Raton, NM, Carol Selcan of Moore, OK, Julie (Ael) Suhr of Waverly, Elaine (Greg Toomer) Gerdes of Early, Donna Svendsen of Spencer, Debbie (Ross) Ford of Newton, Larry Goerner of Virginia Beach, VA and Randy (Valerie) Goerner of Covington, GA; 18 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; her sister, Kaye Olson of Pocahontas and sister-in-law, Kay Hoffert of Pocahontas.

Darlene was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ray; brother, Donald Hoffert and sisters, Edythe Gaskill, Louella Buck Halder and Dorothy Blomberg.

Memorials may be given to the Laurens Public Library or the Laurens Pool Fund. Darlene always encouraged reading and her children spent many hours at the pool.
