David LeRoy Brend, age 79, of Auburn, IA, passed away unexpectedly on May 18, 2022.

A son of J.L. "Jerry" and Elsie (Tasler) Brend, he was born May 29, 1942.  He grew up on a farm northwest of Churdan and graduated from Lohrville High School in 1960.  On June 24, 1961, David was united in marriage to Judith Putbrese.  The couple made their home in Auburn where they raised three children Shelley, Melissa, and Timothy.

Dave was a Standard Oil Jobber and together they owned and operated Brend Oil Company for 47 years.  During his retirement years, he worked part-time for Community Oil Company in Carroll, IA, and hauled produce for Mohr's Farm Market in Auburn, which he thoroughly enjoyed.

In his younger years, he enjoyed bowling and slow-pitch softball.  Dave and Judy sponsored the Brend Oilers bowling and slow-pitch softball teams for many years. Dave was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Auburn where he was a lector and usher. He later became a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lake City, IA.

Dave was a former member of the Auburn Lions Club, Auburn Fire Department, and also served as Fire Chief.  He enjoyed watching game shows and sports, especially the Iowa State Cyclones and St. Louis Cardinals, and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his children: Shelley (Glen) Snyder of Carroll, IA, Missy (Steve) Dornath of Lake View, IA, and Tim (Christina Hallberg) of Indianola, IA; four grandchildren: Nikki, Quinton (Krista), Jake, and Ethan; three great-grandchildren: Kali, Kiernan, and Ollie; brothers: Larry (Vera) Brend of Tupelo, OK, Dwight (Kay) Brend of Parker, CO, Steve (Connie) Brend of Goddard, KS, and Tom Brend of Wichita, KS; sister-in-law Jeri Brend of Churdan, IA; brother-in-law Stan Stover of Stuart, IA; special friends Jim and Carolyn Mohr of Auburn, IA; and many nieces and nephews.

Dave was preceded in death by his wife, Judy, on June 30, 2021; his parents; Judy's parents Bud and Wanda Putbrese; brothers: John Brend, Warren Brend, Gary (Barbara) Brend; sister-in-law Marilyn Stover; and brother-in-law Ronald (Dorothy) Putbrese.
