David McIlrath, age 57 of Lake City, IA, passed away on February 20, 2026, in Beloxi, Mississippi.  David E. was born on February 12, 1969, in Lake City, IA, to parents Dr. Gordon E. McIlrath and Mary JoAnn (Moyland) McIlrath.  He was baptized at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lake City and was later confirmed at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Poynette, WI.  David attended grade school in Carroll, IA, Lake City, IA, and Manson, IA, and graduated from high school in Charles City, IA.

David worked in the packaging department at North Woods in Portage, WI, for approximately 8 yrs.  He loved to dance with his nieces and nephews. One of his favorite things in life was listening to his cassette tapes, gifts of batteries, and going to McDonald's for Cheese burgers and fries.

David loved spending time with his nephews, nieces, his sister Ann Marie Parysz, and his sister-in-law Lori.  He always attended church with Annie and Michael, and found happiness walking Annie and Billy's dogs.  David had Down Syndrome, and he loved everyone who was a part of his life.

Those left to cherish his memory include his siblings: Joel E. (Lori) McIlrath and Ann Marie (Bill) Parysz; his nieces and nephews: Joshua & Sammie McIlrath, Amber & Devin Helt, and Shelby & Nick Wheeler, special pets, and many friends.

David was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Gordon and Mary McIlrath; grandparents Floyd (Jimmy) Maylan, Edna Maylan; brothers Jeffery McIlrath, Brad McIlrath, and nephew Jarad McIlrath.

A Memorial Service will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 9, 2026, at the Lampe and Powers Funeral Home. Burial will take place in the St. Mary's Cemetery in Lake City, Iowa.
