Dean Karl Seehusen passed away on Sunday, November 17, 2019 at the Laurens Care Center in Laurens, Iowa at the age of 89 years.

Dean was born on October 4, 1930 in rural Pomeroy, Iowa to Gretchen (Tapernon) Seehusen and Marten Seehusen. He was the oldest of four children. At the age of two years they moved to the home farm where he began his love of farming. Dean attended elementary and high school in Ware, Iowa and graduated from Ware Consolidated High School in 1948. At this time, he joined his father in farming. On January 31, 1952 Dean married Norma Jean Schnetter at St. Columbkille's Catholic Church in Varina, Iowa. This blessed union was joined by 5 children – Larry, Gerald, Connie, Raymond and Denise and one chosen daughter - Shannon. On February 14, 1952 Dean was drafted into the United States Army at the age of 21. He did Basics in Richmond, Virginia and then served in Korea for 16 months during the Korean War. Following his honorable discharge, he moved back to Pocahontas and farmed ¼ mile East of the home place. In 1964 the family moved to the home place and they have lived there since. He entered the Care Center at Laurens on August 8, 2015.

Dean enjoyed farming, going to auctions, and playing cards and games with anyone that was willing. He was active in the American Legion, having served as Varina American Legion Post Commander and Adjutant and honored by being able to do the Honor Flight in 2013.

Dean was preceded in death by his son Larry, parents Marten and Gretchen Seehusen, brother Marven Seehusen, sister Marjorie Long, infant sister Marion Seehusen and grandson Greg Seehusen.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years Norma Jean Seehusen, children Gerald Seehusen – Tracy, Minnesota, Connie (Rod) Lange - Spirit Lake, Iowa, Raymond (Donna) Seehusen – Pocahontas, Iowa, Denise (Kelly) Norland – Okoboji, Iowa, Shannon (John) Sandy – Arnolds Park, Iowa, daughter-in-law Shari Motis – Ankeny, Iowa, 17 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren and sister Martha (Claude) Phillips, and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
