Dennis P. Nagengast – age 89, of Pocahontas, passed away on Tuesday, April 21, 2020, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.

Dennis Peter Nagengast was born on August 29, 1930, in Howells, Nebraska. He was the son of Jacob and Wilma (Stangel) Nagengast. He graduated from Varina High School in 1948. Dennis served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1952 to 1954. On June 1, 1967, Dennis was united in marriage to Adella "Del" Blatt in Granville, Iowa. The couple settled near Pocahontas where they farmed and raised their family. In the mid 1990's they retired and moved into Pocahontas. The couple recently relocated to Madrid, Iowa.

Dennis was a member of Resurrection of Our Lord Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, American Legion, Lions Club and Farm Bureau. He enjoyed golfing, gardening, fishing and using his computer. He also enjoyed polka dancing. Dennis especially loved the time spent with his family. In 2000, Dennis and Del traveled to Korea with other veterans to commemorate the Anniversary of the Korean War. In 2013, Dennis had the privilege of traveling on the Veterans Honor Flight to Washington D.C.

Survivors include his wife, Adella "Del" of Madrid; daughter, Julie (Bill) Capaldo of Polk City; son, Paul (Tonya) Nagengast of Pocahontas; 8 grandchildren, Jessica, Cali, Anthony, Kelsey, Hannah, Tanner, Jada and Ryan and a sister, Carol Briggs of Wisconsin.

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Jack and Ervin Nagengast; a sister, Jean Daniels; and infant twin sisters.

PRIVATE FAMILY SERVICES WILL BE HELD FRIDAY, APRIL 24, 2020, AT THE RESURRECTION OF OUR LORD CATHOLIC CHURCH IN POCAHONTAS WITH BURIAL AT ST. COLUMBKILLE CEMETERY IN VARINA WITH MILITARY RITES BY THE AMERICAN LEGION.
