Dennis Eugene Olson, 76, of Fort Dodge, formerly of Pocahontas, passed away Wednesday, October 21st, 2020 from stroke complications at Mercy One in Des Moines, Iowa.

Dennis was born on September 17 ^th , 1944 in Fort Dodge, Iowa to parents Elby and Florence (Stroud) Olson and was the second of four brothers. Dennis attended country school in Pomeroy and graduated from Pocahontas High School in 1963. In 1965 Dennis married Linda Malecek at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Pocahontas. After high school he worked at the local elevator and learned woodworking as a cabinet maker before purchasing a restaurant in Pocahontas. From 1974 to 1993 Denny and Linda owned and operated Olson's Dairy Freeze and Miniature Golf along with their four daughters (twins Joyce and Jean, Janet, and Jenny) and countless dedicated employees who can surely attest to learning the value of hard work as well as how to count change back the long way. After the Dairy years, Dennis worked at Jet Co. in Humboldt until retirement.

Throughout his life Denny enjoyed camping, boating, travel, fishing and spending time with family and friends. He had a special relationship with four-legged friends and loved having the grand dogs (aka 'purps') come to visit. The family enjoyed Dad's quick wit and practical jokes over the years as well as Dennis 'isms over such as 'You don't say!', 'Is that right!' and 'A dog is a pal.' He will be greatly missed.

Dennis is survived by his wife Linda of 55 years, daughters Joyce (Bill) Claman of Shakopee, MN; Janet (Jim) Zimmerman of Harlan, IA; Jennifer (Lada) Cisar of Plymouth, MN; grandchildren Sara, Kassie, Molly, Nick, Alyssa, Hannah, Jack, Josie, Mattias; great-grandchildren Nora, Violet; and brother Keith Olson of Des Moines.

He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Curtis Olson and Ken Olson, and daughter and son-in-law Jean and Jamie Tigges.
