Donald W. Ayers   - age 84,  passed away, Tuesday, May 28, 2019, at his home in Pocahontas, Iowa.

Donald Wayne Ayers was born June 24, 1934, in Washington, Iowa. He was the son of Floyd and Ruth (Long) Ayers. Don graduated from Washington High School in 1952 and went on to serve in the U.S. Army from 1953 – 1955. Following his military service, Don went on to attend the University of Iowa. On June 11, 1961, he married LaVelda Knepp in Davenport, Iowa. The couple lived in Washington, Iowa before settling in Pocahontas in 1964. Don worked as a District Construction Engineer for the Iowa DNR for 34 years, before retiring in 1995. LaVelda passed away in June of 2005 and Don continued to make his home in Pocahontas.

Don was a member of the Hope United Methodist Church in Pocahontas. He enjoyed helping at the Rialto Theatre, doing crossword puzzles, fishing, hunting and hanging out at the Machine Shop.

Survivors include his children, Leland Ayers of New Hampton, Michael (Laurie) Ayers of Pocahontas; Nancy (Jim) Campbell of Austin, TX and Amy Halder of Waukesha, WI; six grandchildren, Nicole Zoske and Ryan Ayers, Zachary and Madison Halder and Bryan and Andrew Campbell a one great-granddaughter, Olivia Ayers and his special friend, Dixie Gottsch. Don was preceded in death by his parents; wife, LaVelda; siblings, Robert Ayers and Lois Simpson and daughter-in-law, Sue Ayers.
