Donald Clair Cundiff, age 88, passed away at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa on May 26, 2022. Cause of death was a brain bleed due to a severe head injury.

Don was born in rural Pocahontas County, Iowa on July 24, 1933. His parents were Kimbro and Beulah (Pecoy) Cundiff.

He graduated from Pocahontas Community High School in 1951. Following graduation from High School, Don joined the U.S. Navy, serving his country from 1952 to 1954. He was stationed at various bases, including Bremerton Naval Station near Puget Sound, in the state of Washington, and at the Newfoundland, Canada, Naval Shipyards.

Don married Ora Mae Weartherman on December 22, 1957. This marriage had two sons, Jeff Cundiff and Tim Cundiff.

Over the years, Don worked for various underground construction contractors in Iowa and the Midwest, installing water and sewer lines. Over the years, Don acquired his own construction equipment (backhoes, tractor w/loader, etc.) and continued to install underground pipelines, both in Iowa and in Idaho, where Don moved his family in 1978.

Don was a past member of the VFW. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, making fishing lures, and watching cowboy movies on TV. He received many prizes and trophies for fishing contests.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, Kimbro and Beulah Cundiff; three infant siblings, two sisters and one brother; his sister, June Alborn, and his brother in law, Darlow Alborn; his brother, Kenneth Cundiff, and sister in law, Donna Cundiff; his sister, Marlene Lubinius, and his brother in law, Arnold Lubinus; his sister, Judy Oleson; his ex-wife, the mother of his sons, Ora Mae Cundiff; youngest son, Tim Cundiff, and his many uncles, aunts, nieces and nephews.

Don is survived by his sister, Patty Payer, and brother in law, Bob Payer, from Storm Lake, IA; his brother in law, Earl Oleson, from South Sioux City, NE; his son, Jeff Cundiff, and daughter in law, Roxy Cundiff, from Nampa, ID; his granddaughter, Melissa Cundiff, granddaughter, Lacey, grandson, Matthew, and numerous other great-grandchildren in Idaho, and his best friend for many years, Stanley Gregerson, from Cedar Falls, IA.
