Donald D. VanGorkom, age 77, of Rolfe, passed away on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at Good Samaritan Society in Algona, Iowa.

Donald Dean VanGorkom was born on September 11, 1947, in Fort Dodge, Iowa. He was the son of Edward and Edna (Wiegert) VanGorkom. Don graduated from Rolfe High School in 1966, then continued his education at Wayne State College, graduating in 1969.

On December 28, 1968, Don was united in marriage to Linda Heathman in Rolfe, Iowa. They were blessed with two wonderful children, Michelle and David. Don taught for 31 years at various schools, where he coached football and boys and girls basketball. He was also actively involved in the High School Electrathon Program. In addition to teaching, he farmed and drove truck, where he logged over a million miles during a 10-year period. Linda passed away in December of 2023, and Don continued to make his home near Rolfe.

Don was an active member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, where he enjoyed operating the sound system for services. He enjoyed fishing and traveling with his kids and other family members. Don loved spending time with his grandchildren and following their activities.

Those left to cherish Don's memory include his daughter, Michelle (Aaron) Simpson of Chanhassen, MN; son, Dave (Danelle) of Algona; grandchildren, Reese, Maya and Sophie Mireau and Dainen, Drew, Dionna and Danica VanGorkom and sisters-in-law, Nancy Heathman and Peggy VanGorkom.

Don was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Linda; brother, Roger VanGorkom; sister, Annella Fritz, and brothers-in-law, Jerry Fritz and Denny Heathman.
