Doris J. Higgins – age 85, of Humboldt, formerly of Rolfe, passed away on Wednesday, September 28, 2022, in Humboldt, Iowa.

Doris Jane Reynolds, daughter of Glenn and Katherine (Mannel) Reynolds, was born on February 7, 1937, Calhoun County, Farnhamville, Iowa. She graduated from Fort Dodge High School in 1955. After graduation, she worked as an operator for the phone company. On April 19, 1959, Richard Higgins and Doris Reynolds were married in Gilmore City. Together they raised chickens and continued Richard's corn shelling business for several years and then began crop farming. They farmed corn and soybeans around Gilmore City and Rutland for more than 40 years. The couple also raised hogs, cattle, sheep and several family pets. The couple enjoyed camping for many years, especially at the Iowa State Fair and Okoboji.

Richard and Doris had two children, David and Denise and two grandchildren.

Doris was a long time member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She served as Worthy Matron and belonged to the Past Matron Club. Doris was also a member of several other local church and community groups.

In 2000, Richard and Doris retired and moved to Rolfe and later to Humboldt. Doris' passion included researching family ancestry and telling stories of her childhood and her parents' stories of previous generations. She loved visiting with long time friends and going out for coffee. Doris enjoyed reading novels and never went a day without reading a book.

Doris is survived by her children, David (Lisa) Higgins of Fort Dodge, IA and Denise (Geno) Pignataro of Arlington Heights, IL; grandchildren, Casey Higgins of Humboldt, IA and Sophia Pignataro of Arlington Heights, IL; Derek Sebring and Marissa Sebring of Fort Dodge, Iowa, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Richard, and her siblings Sara J. Dencklau and Dwight Reynolds.

Memorials are requested in Doris' name to be distributed at her family's discretion.
