Dorothy Bean, age 90, of Lake City, IA, passed away on Friday, October 31, 2025, at Stewart Memorial Community Hospital in Lake City, IA.   Dorothy Mae was born on October 5, 1935, to parents Frank and Mary (Engh) Hamilton.  She grew up in Lake City, where she attended country school and later graduated from West View High School in Lake City.

On September 15, 1954, Dorothy was united in marriage to the love of her life, Daryl Bean, at Woodlawn Church in Lake City.  This union was blessed with three children: Kimberly, Kevin, and Kayla.  Together, they raised their children on the farm, where Dorothy worked as a legal secretary for Bernard-Willis Law Office for 29 years.  She also worked at Shady Oaks Nursing Home for 15 years, helped with farming, was the St. Mary's secretary, and delivered vehicles for Macke Motors.

Dorothy was a member of the Red Hat Girls and was the FFA Harvest Queen.  She was a master at sewing and would sew clothing for mission projects for the church, and she made a lot of her own clothing.  Dorothy also enjoyed traveling, especially to Branson, MO.  Most of all, Dorothy cherished her family and spending time with them.  She will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved her.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 71 years, Daryl Bean of Lake City, IA; children: Kevin (Joanne) Bean of Lake City, IA, Kayla (Todd) Riesberg of Dawson, IA; son-in-law Ricke Anderson of Lake City, IA; grandchildren: Brittanie Steig, Dallas Anderson, Abigail Purdie, Andrea Plagman, Heather Anderson, Justin Bean, Megan Hicks, Jorden Riesberg, and Tiffany Early; 19 great-grandchildren; two great great-grandchildren; brother Charles (Mavis) Hamilton of Beatrice, NE; niece Michele Deluhery; and many other extended family members and friends.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her daughter, Kimberly Anderson; grandson Braden Hicks; sister Burnadette (Dale) Subbert; parents Frank and Mary Hamilton; in-laws Lois (Gerald) Deluhery, Robert Bean, Lyle Bean, and Harold and Mildred Bean.

Her Memorial Service will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, November 8, 2025, at the Woodlawn Christian Church. Visitation will be 4:00 - 6:00 p.m., Friday at the Lampe and Powers Funeral Home in Lake City, IA. Burial will take place in the Lake City Cemetery.
