Dorothy Eleanor Schaeffer - age 89, of Murfreesboro, TN, formerly of Pocahontas, passed away on August 14, 2023, at her home in Murfreesboro, TN.

Dorothy was born on December 24, 1933, in Pioneer, IA. She was the daughter of Carl and Bessie Bollock Powers. She grew up in the Pocahontas, IA area where she attended rural schools and was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.

Dorothy married Harold Schaeffer on August 24, 1950. She was employed in several retail stores in Pocahontas and owned and operated Our Own Hardware from 1980 until 1990. In October 2010, they moved to Murfreesboro, TN. Dorothy enjoyed her dogs, gardening, crafts, games, and bird watching.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Schaeffer; daughters, Rhonda Schaeffer; Barbara Hicklin; her parents, Carl and Bessie Powers; brothers, Clyde Powers; Clifford Powers; sister, Lavonne Dryden; and a son-in-law, Homer Wesley Hicklin.

She is survived by her daughter, Sherry (Mel) Cates; grandchildren, Emily (Jamie) Ray; Nathan (Lindsey) Hicklin; great grandchildren, Alexander Ray; Nolan Ray; Anna Claire Hicklin; and William Hicklin.
