Duane Bachman, age 89 of Auburn, IA, passed away on Wednesday, December 21, 2022, at St.  Anthony Nursing Home in Carroll, IA. Duane Albert was born on July 6, 1933, in Auburn to parents Anthony and Helena (Neppl) Bachman. He attended elementary school and then stayed home to help his dad on the farm. Duane received his letter from President Eisenhower to be inducted into the United States Navy on November 16, 1955. He served aboard the U.S.S. Hornet (CV A-12) working in the boiler room, and he was honorably discharged on August 19, 1957. Duane served in the reserves until November 15, 1961.

On June 12, 1962, Duane was united in marriage to Frances Ann Ludwig at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Auburn, IA. They adopted their daughter Renee on December 19, 1966. Duane worked many different jobs throughout his life. He spent most of his life farming, but also held jobs at the elevator, Tiling, and in his earlier years, at Nobles Manufacturing in Sac City, IA. Duane and Frances also owned the Bachman Sundries Store for many years and delivered congregate meals. In his later years, Duane filled his time by working on bicycles, fixing them up, and giving them away to the neighborhood kids and families. He was a jack of all trades and was often found riding his bike and spent lots of time at the library having coffee and reading the newspaper.

Duane's devoted love for his wife, France was amazing. When she became ill, he never left her side and took the best care of her. Duane loved to visit with people and talk about the past, especially his military days. Faith and family were very important to him. He would always say that praying the rosary many times a day was his comfort and that it would help with anything. Duane would always tell Renee "Keep your chin up". Renee was his pride and joy and they shared a very close bond.

Those left to cherish his memory include his daughter Renee (Rusty) Hull of Audubon, IA; five grandsons Jobi (Haley) Gorden, Ethan Genter, Evan Genter, Garrett (Morgan) Genter, Landon (Sara) Frahm; six great-grandchildren Lexi, Hayden, Olivia, Kobee, Christopher, Emerson; and a sister-in-law Irene Bachman.

Duane was reunited in heaven with his wife Frances Bachman of 58 years. He was also preceded in death by his parents Anthony and Helena Bachman; siblings: Othmar (Betty) Bachman, Edward Bachman, Cletus (Helen) Bachman, Raphael Bachman, James (Jenny) Bachman, Delores (Edgar) Koster, and Marilyn Bachman.
