Dwight Morenz, age 90, of Lake City, IA, passed away on  Monday, June 1, 2026, at his home.  Dwight Wayne Morenz was born on August 20, 1935, to parents Albert and Elma (Baumgartel) Morenz in Carroll, IA.  He grew up on the farm south of Auburn, IA, and was baptized on September 15, 1935.  Dwight attended country school and later graduated from Auburn High School with the class of 1954.  After graduation, Dwight enlisted to serve his country in the United States Marine Corps.  He enlisted on August 1, 1956, served during the Cold War, and earned the rank of Sergeant.

After his return, Dwight was united in marriage to Frances McIntire on December 19, 1956, at the family home in Lake City.  This union was blessed with two children: Elma and Neil.  Dwight worked many jobs throughout his life, including 45 years as a John Deere mechanic, a Central School Architect/Historian, and a Dobsons custodian.  He retired from John Deere in 2001, but continued doing side jobs until March of 2026.

Dwight was a long-time member of the Pilgrim Lutheran Church, where he held the titles of Elder, Trustee, and congregational       President.  He was a member of the Fire Department, Central School Perseveration, and the Lutheran Church Board.  Dwight was            Interested in gardening, woodworking, family genealogy, community history, and studying the Lord's word.  He also cherished his time spent with his kids and grandchildren.

Those left to cherish his memory include his children: Elma Devries and Neil Morenz; grandchildren: Clint DeVries, Shelby Wiley, Colten (Bri) Morenz, and Allison Morenz; great-grandchildren: Marcus and Gabe Wiley, Cohen and Adeline Morenz; siblings: Judy (Bill) Vote, Gertrude Drost, Joel (Carol) Morenz, Gene (Cheryl) Morenz, Jim Morenz, Donna Smidt, Diane (Bruce) Seymour, and sister-in-law Pat Morenz.

Dwight was preceded in death by his wife, Frannie (McIntire) Morenz; son-in-law Del Devries; brother Delbert Morenz; parents Al and Elma Morenz; in-laws Frank and Gladys Morenz; brothers-in-law Wayne Smidt, and Virgil Drost; nephew Rodney Drost, and Les Holm; dogs: Walter, Scooter, and Meme; and multiple other family members and friends.

. A Funeral Service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 4, 2026, at the Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Lake City, Iowa. Visitation will be 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at the Lampe and Powers Funeral Home. Burial will take place in the Lake City Cemetery.
