Edward G. Pirie – age 85, of Pocahontas, passed away Monday, December 7, 2020, at Arlington Place in Pocahontas, Iowa.

Edward George Pirie was born on June 15, 1935, near Plover, Iowa. He was the son of George and Mabel (Lynn) Pirie. He graduated from Plover High School. Ed served in the United States Army from 1955 – 1957 and then returned to Plover. On June 13, 1959, he was united in marriage to Laurine A. Hiesterman in Pocahontas, Iowa. The couple made their home on the family farm near Plover, where they farmed and raised their family. In the mid-1980's Ed began driving truck for Hakes and then Scrivner Foods. In 1993, Ed and Laurine moved into Pocahontas where Ed was a driver for the Midas Transit System, retiring in 2015.

Ed was a member of the St. Peter Lutheran Church. He was very active in the community and was a member of the Havelock-Plover School Board, Pocahontas County ASC, St. Peter Lutheran Church Council and was the Plover Centennial Chairman. He served as a Sunday School teacher and a Lutheran Youth Group Sponsor. Ed was an avid St. Louis Cardinals and Iowa State Cyclone fan. He especially enjoyed the time he spent with his family.

Survivors include his wife, Laurine; son, Kevin (Denita) Pirie of Sioux City; sisters, Helen Smith of St. Louis, MO; Nancy Strickler of Des Moines; Judy (Sam) Sorsby of Texas; sister-in-law, Dorothy Pirie of Kansas City, MO; brother-in-law, Gordon Sedlacek of Pullman, WA; grandchildren, Amanda (Patrick) Essick, Taylor (Alex) Gross, Molli (Nate) Dau, Pegan Auten and Kristoffer Pirie; great-grandchildren, Hayedn Dau and Lily and Noel Essick.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Gina Pirie; brothers, Jim Pirie and Robert Pirie and sister, Ruth Sedlacek.
