Eleanor Hohensee – age 90, of Pocahontas, passed away on Saturday, March 21, 2020, at the Pocahontas Community Hospital in Pocahontas, Iowa.

Eleanor Schott was born on November 27, 1929, in Pocahontas, Iowa. She was the daughter of William and Frida (Meidel) Schott. Eleanor grew up on the family farm and graduated from Sacred Heart High School in 1947. She worked at Mitchell's Grocery Store in Pocahontas during high school and until the time she married. Eleanor was united in marriage to Donald Hohensee on December 13, 1949 in Pocahontas where the couple settled. After her youngest child began school, Eleanor worked in the kitchen of Pocahontas Catholic School from 1966-1977. She was a dedicated servant of the Lord volunteering countless hours at church as a sacristan, Eucharistic Minister, Lector, seamstress, cleaner, and cared for flowers and plants. Eleanor continued to live in the home she and Don built (1953) after Don passed away in December of 2010.

Eleanor was a member of the Resurrection of Our Lord Catholic Church and active member of the Ladies Society, C.D. of A., Catholic Order of Foresters, the Parish Endowment Board and Missionary Quilting Group. She enjoyed her involvement with the ISU Extension Service. She was a skilled seamstress creating most of her children's clothing and household furnishings. Eleanor belonged to many card clubs, loved to read, plant and care for flowers, cook and decorate her home. She also liked to attend auctions and shop garage sales and thrift stores.

Survivors include her children, Charlie Hohensee, Roger (Ellen) Hohensee, Sister Renae Hohensee, OSF, Debby Eaton and Dean (Carole) Hohensee, all of Pocahontas; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; brother, Joe (Betty) Schott of Sheldon and son-in-law, William Zaugg of West Bend.

Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald; daughter, Connie Zaugg; sisters, Laura Bunda and Elmira Struthers; brothers, Lucian, Walter, Elmer, Clarence, Bill, Leo and Fritz Schott and son-in-law, Darwin Eaton.
