Eugene R. Hohensee – age 78, of Humboldt, formerly of Pocahontas, passed away on Monday, February 19, 2024, at the Kavanagh House in Des Moines, Iowa.

Eugene Raymond Hohensee was born on August 3, 1945, near Laurens, Iowa. He was the son of Raymond and Eileen (Nomann) Hohensee. He graduated from Pocahontas High School in 1963. On April 18, 1965, Gene married Janet Johnson at St. John Lutheran Church, Lizard Twp. near Palmer, Iowa. Gene worked in management at various Coop elevators throughout Iowa, including Assistant Manager in Pocahontas, Manager in Hawkeye and Interim Manager in Dixon. Gene retired in 1996 and settled in Humboldt.

Gene was a long time member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Pocahontas where he had served on the Church Council. Gene and Janet loved watching their kids participate in high school activities. They never missed a sporting event that their boys were in or a music event of their daughter. In his later years, Gene enjoyed his grandchildren's sporting events, racing, and time with his family. Gene also loved his time fishing in Northern Minnesota and made many great memories with family there.

Survivors include his children, Jeffrey Hohensee of West Des Moines, Michael Hohensee of Fort Dodge and Julie (Jon) Halverson of Polk City; grandchildren, Jamie Zoulek of Cedar Falls, Taylor Hohensee of Fort Meyers, FL, Paige Hohensee of Des Moines, Logan Hohensee of Las Vegas, NV, Jackson Halverson of Polk City and Jordin Halverson of Polk City; great-grandchildren, Cecelia, Zeppelin, and Desmond Zoulek all of Cedar Falls and a sister, Diane Moore of Biloxi, MS.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Duane.
