Evelyn B. Bittner - age 97, of Pocahontas, passed away on Monday, November 25, 2019, at the Laurens Care Center in Laurens, Iowa.

Evelyn Bernice Halder was born on August 20, 1922 near Laurens, Iowa. She was the daughter of Israel and Iris (Mason) Halder. Evelyn attended country school and graduated in 1939 from Pocahontas High School. Evelyn was baptized, made her first communion and was confirmed in Sacred Heart Parish. Evelyn married Lt. Edward James (Jim) Bittner on May 29, 1944. Jim was commissioned 1st Lt. Officer and while home on leave, he and Evelyn were married. To this union were born Richard Lee of Cherokee, Barry Joseph of Storm Lake and a daughter, Mary Beth, who died in infancy.

Evelyn belonged to St. Columbkille Catholic Church in Varina for 50 years, where she belonged to Catholic Daughters and held three offices. She also belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary and the Altar Society. She worked in Schott's Clothing Store and the Buena Vista Community Hospital over the years.

Survivors include her sons, Kenneth (Theresa) Say of Norman, OK and Barry (Marlene) Bittner of Storm Lake; grandchildren, Jodie (Tabitha) Say of Louisville, KY, Michael Say of Louisville, KY, Christopher Say of Apache Junction, AZ, Jeffrey (Amy) Say of Mesa, AZ, Cynthia (Matt) Miller of Mesa, AZ, Jeanna Bittner of Omaha, NE, Jodi (Steve) Bittner Chase of Cherokee; Lindi (Todd) Stykel of Cherokee, Jeff (Kay) Bittner of New Sharon and Mike (Alicia) Bittner of Omaha, NE; great grandchildren, Madison & Emily Stykel, Zachary & Derek Nixon, Chance & Chloe Readshaw(daughters of Jeff & Kay) and an additional 22 great grandchildren from Kenneth and Theresa's side of the family; four sisters-in-law; one brother-in-law and 53 nieces & nephews.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jim; son and daughter-in-law, Richard "Rick" and Pat Bittner; infant daughter, Mary Beth; brothers, Lowell and Ray Halder and a sister, Calista Hammes.
