Francis "Jack" McCartan – age 94, of Rolfe, passed away Saturday, August 24, 2019, at the Laurens Care Center in Laurens, Iowa.
Fancis John McCartan "Jack" was born Dec. 27, 1924 to Theo and Rozella (Ellis) McCartan of Pocahontas. Jack attended and graduated from Pocahontas Catholic School. He had many good memories of playing basketball for the "Eagles". Following graduation, Jack began farming, first with horses, then tractors. He continued to farm until he retired. Jack married Darlene Peters on April 25, 1945. They became parents to six children.

He is survived by his sons, Gary (Beth) of Pocahontas; Dean of Rolfe, Paul (Carol) of Stewartville,MN and daughters, Bev Frevert (Bruce) Centerville and Becky Schuller (Greg) Pensacola, Fl. Jack has 12 grandchildren,and 9 great grandchildren. He will also be remembered by his sister in-law, Katie McCartan, cousin, Mary Therese Ellis, and countless nieces & nephews, who loved Uncle Jack. Jack was preceded in death by his wife, Darlene and son, Roger.

Throughout his life, his love of horse power never wavered. Jack would have been perfectly happy to have continued to farm with horses. He often broke and worked horses for other people. His favorites were Belgian draft horses, which he used for some farm chores. If he had one more round to make mowing hay, Jack would hitch the team for the last round.
