Georgine L. Grund – age 92, of Laurens, passed away Wednesday, September 21, 2022, at the Pocahontas Community Hospital in Pocahontas, Iowa.

Georgine LaVerle Thompson was born October 23, 1929 at the family home in Plover, Iowa. She was the youngest daughter of Lloyd Brown Thompson and Susie Emma Williams Thompson. Georgine was baptized in the Plover Methodist Church and attended Plover School through 5 ^th grade. In 1940, the family moved to Pocahontas where she attended Pocahontas Public School and graduated in 1947 – National Honor Society from Pocahontas High School.

Georgine worked in Fort Dodge until 1948, when she married Howard Franklin Grund on August 14, 1948 at Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. The couple lived in Pocahontas, Cedar Falls, Renwick and Livermore, before settling in Laurens where they bought a home in 1954, there the couple raised their two children, Cindy and Tim.

Georgine was a member of Laurens Methodist Church, where she was very active with the United Methodist Women -Rachel Circle, serving meals at funerals. She was a life member of the Pocahontas County Historical Society and the VFW Auxiliary, where she held the positions of president, treasurer and other offices. She was also a Boy Scout Den Mother.

Survivors include her daughter, Cindy (Terry) Herrig of Albert City; son, Tim Grund of Laurens; 3 granddaughters, Kelly Herrig (Mike), Jenny (Stacy) Benna and Jessica (Terry) Hoffman; 1 grandson, Austin (Kriste) Herrig; 10 great-grandchildren, and sister-in-laws, Mary Wolfe and Mary Thompson.

Georgine was preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd and Susie Thompson; husband, Howard Grund; brother, Keith Thompson; sister, Mary Emma Cassen; brother-in-laws, Ray Cassen, Don Grund and Allen Wolfe, and sister-in-law, Laura Grund.
