Harold W. Holtapp – age 90, of Pocahontas, passed away on Friday, October 15, 2021, at the Pocahontas Community Hospital in Pocahontas, Iowa, surrounded by his family.

Harold was nicknamed Happy, "Hap" by his grandpa Holtapp. He is known for his mischievous grin and witty one-liners. He taught his sons and daughters the value of hard work, good judgment, and integrity. Being involved in farming was a way of life throughout his years, and he took pride in a good day's work. He enjoyed conversation about weather, markets, livestock, his service in the Korean War, current news, and his family. His favorite conversation starters were "what do you know today?" or "what are you getting done?"

Harold William Holtapp was born August 31, 1931, at his family's farm in rural Pomeroy. He was the son of William "Bill" and Martha (Janssen) Holtapp. He grew up on the family farm, attended the local one-room school, and then graduated from Pomeroy High School in 1950. He farmed with his father after graduation. He was drafted to the United States Army in 1952, served in combat during the Korean War, and fought at Pork Chop Hill. He was honorably discharged at the rank of Corporal in 1954. On November 11, 1956, Harold was united in marriage to Patricia Margaret Clark in Ogden, Iowa. Harold and Pat lived in Fort Dodge before settling at their family farm near Pomeroy. They raised their five children and were active supporters of the community, church, and school. Harold continued farming and raising livestock until "retirement." Harold and Pat moved from their farm in 2006 to their home in Pocahontas. Harold continued to drive to the farm every day and was active in the daily operations never missing a harvest.

Harold was a lifelong member of St. John's Lutheran Church where he served on the Church Council. He was involved in AMVETS and participated in a Korean War Honor Flight in 2013. He loved attending his children and grandchildren's school and activities. Having great grand-children gave him great joy, and he loved their visits, stories, and antics.

Survivors include: children, Jay (Vickie) Holtapp of Pomeroy, IA; Kathy (daughter-in-law) Schmitz of Lost Nation, IA; Mary (Bruce Mills) Holtapp of Kalamazoo, MI; Mike (Debbie) Holtapp of Pomeroy, IA; Susan (Dale Freiday) Holtapp-Freiday of Minneapolis, MN; 8 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sisters, Lois Keleher, Lorna Kleen; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Harold was preceded in death by beloved family members including his wife, Patricia; his parents; son, Dale Holtapp; grandson, Nick Holtapp; brother and sister-in-law, Vernon and Faye Holtapp; sister, Ila Ashbrook; and sister-in-law, Shirley Clark.
