Imogene Sandy, age 99, of Waukee, formerly of Pocahontas, passed away on October 27, 2025.

Imogene Faye Carlson was born August 28, 1926 in Pocahontas, Iowa to Lena and Clarence Carlson. She attended school in Pocahontas and graduated from Pocahontas High School in 1945. After graduating she worked in Pocahontas as a telephone operator.

She met the love of her life, Dean Charles Sandy in Pocahontas and they married on January 12, 1946 in Hayward, California. She traveled by train with Dean's parents, Earl and Freida Sandy, to California to be married. Gene's parents were not able to attend, as it was just after WWII ended and they didn't have tires to make the trip. Dean and Gene remained in California for a few months, but were both homesick, so returned home to Iowa.

Three children were born to their marriage. Coleen Fay, Kenneth Dean and Keith Duane.

Gene and Dean resided in Havelock, Pocahontas and Twin Lakes, Iowa. Later they lived in Arkansas and Florida.

Gene was active in the United Methodist Church and Tri-T while in Pocahontas. She was an avid reader, baker and walker. She and Dean loved to travel. Family was the most important priority in her life.

Gene is survived by her daughter Coleen (Gary) Kennedy, sons Kenneth (Diane) Sandy and Keith(Mary Jo) Sandy; grandchildren Erin and Matt(Christina) Rosenkrans, Matt and Marc Sandy, Kate(Mike) Mullinex, Justin(Alanna) and Meredith(Danny Umeck) Sandy, great grandchildren Colin and Norah Sandy, Emma, Ellie and Joey Rosenkrans, Max Mullinex and Rowan Umeck, step grandchildren Megan Bennett and Aaron (Ashley) Kennedy, step great grandchildren Nathan and Kayla Kennedy, Blakely and Carter Bennett, and Remi Umeck.

Gene was preceded in death by husband Dean C. Sandy, parents Lena and Clarence Carlson, sister and brother-in-law Delores and Archie Johnson, brother and sister-in-law Eugene Carlson and Dixie Carlson Gottsch.

Services will be at Hope Church in Pocahontas, Iowa at 10:30 AM, Saturday, November 22, 2025. Visitation is one hour prior to the service time. Burial will take place in Summit Hill Cemetery in Pocahontas.
