James D. Bartosh, age 90, of Pocahontas, passed away on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at the Laurens Care Center in Laurens, Iowa.

James Donald Bartosh was born on March 8, 1934, in Fort Dodge, Iowa to parents James W. and June (Slutter) Bartosh. Jim was baptized, confirmed and received all sacraments at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Pocahontas. He attended Sacred Heart Catholic School in Pocahontas from 1st – 12th grade, graduating in 1952. Following graduation, Jim farmed until July of 1956 when he entered the U.S. Army. He was discharged in 1958 and returned to Pocahontas. Jim continued to farm, but was also employed with ASCS as an inspector and appraiser. On February 18, 1978, Jim was united in marriage to Shirley (Truelson) Botine at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Pocahontas. The couple settled in Pocahontas, and in 1980, Jim was elected as Pocahontas County Clerk of District Court, where he served for 17 years. In 2024, Jim entered the Laurens Care Center.

Jim was a member of Resurrection of Our Lord Catholic Church, where he was active singing in choirs and helped usher. He was also a member of the Lions Club for over 40 years. Jim volunteered at the Rialto Theatre for 10 years, serving on the board for 4 years, and was a board member of the Hinde Community Center for 13 years. He was treasurer for the Pocahontas County Democrats and SS Peter and Paul Historical Corporation. Jim was also the school crossing guard for many years.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley of Pocahontas; children, Alan (Pam) Botine of Boerne, TX; Greg Botine of Pocahontas, and Jill (Gregg) Anderson of Littleton, CO; grandchildren, Bruce (Brianna) Botine, Abby (Nathan) Botine, McKenzie Botine, Chris (Ebbie) Anderson and Megan Anderson; 16 great-grandchildren, and sister, Marcella Schoberg of Pocahontas.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Mary Lou Clendenen; daughter-in-law, Melissa Botine, and brothers-in-law, Cliff Smith, Earl Schoberg and Phil Clendenen.
