James A. Fitzgerald - age 84, of Pocahontas, passed away Tuesday, November 19, 2019, at his home in Pocahontas with family by his side.

James Allen Fitzgerald was born on May 5, 1935, in Varina, Iowa. He was the son of Mathew and Stella (Ryan) Fitzgerald. He graduated from Varina St. Columbkille in 1954. Jim met Kathy A. Vodraska of Mallard, Iowa and two years later the couple married on August 8, 1959. The couple settled in Pocahontas, raising two sons, Randy and Rodney. Jim worked for Howard Shimon Ford for 37 years. He retired in 1991. Jim and Kathy enjoyed wintering in Texas, being camp hosts of Storm Lake Campground and care takers of the Pocahontas City Park and campgrounds. Jim also worked part-time for the city of Pocahontas with the Street Dept. and he served in the Iowa Army National Guard from 1954 until 1962.

Jim's love of the outdoors was camping with friends and family and mowing often. Jim loved the fishing trips with his family and babysitting the family dog (Maggie). Jim loved the time he spent with his family, grandkids and nieces and nephews.

Survivors include his sons, Randy (Joan) Fitzgerald of Lone Rock, IA and Rod (Kate) Fitzgerald of Cherokee, IA; 9 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; siblings, Pat Weishaar and Jack (Norma) Fitzgerald; in-laws, Tom Vodraska, Joe Vodraska, Bernadine Reis and Patty Jensen and many nieces and nephews.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Kathy of 59 years; sister, Elaine Sparapany and infant great grandson, Luke Michael Fraser.
