James H. Fitzgerald – age 79, of Urbandale, formerly of Pocahontas, passed away peacefully on May 28, 2019, in Waukee, Iowa.
James Harold Fitzgerald was born on August 4, 1939, in Marshalltown, Iowa, and was raised on a farm outside of Baxter. It was here that he fell in love with his high school sweetheart, Barbara Banninger. After graduating from Baxter in 1957, Jim attended his beloved Iowa State University and graduated in 1961. Jim and Barb were married on September 3, 1960 and moved to Pocahontas.
After a short stint at Commercial State Bank, Jim partnered with Gary Burns to create Burns Fitzgerald Realtors where he worked over 50 years until he retired and moved to Grimes.
Jim is survived by his five children, Nick (Kim) Fitzgerald of Council Bluffs, IA, Andy (Lisa) Fitzgerald of Des Moines, IA, Sherry Tipton of Maryville, TN, Tim Fitzgerald of Urbandale, IA and Molly (Jon) Miller of Ames, IA; his eight grandchildren, Amelia, Sam and Cameron (Nick & Kim), Ben and Sully (Andy & Lisa), Aaron (Sherry), and Holden and Furston (Molly & Jon); his brothers, Jack (Margaret) Fitzgerald of Cedar Rapids and Dave Fitzgerald of Iowa City; sisters-in-law, Phyllis Fitzgerald of Lowden and Carol Ann Fitzgerald of Ames and many nieces & nephews.
He loved his family well and they remember him most for his sharp wit and one-liners, willingness to help anyone in need, his love of golf and Iowa State sports.
Jim is preceded in death by his wife Barbara, parents Harold and Amelia and siblings, Bob (Marilyn), Dick, Joan and Denny.
