James M. Myers – age 83, of Pocahontas, passed away on Saturday, February 22, 2020, at the Pocahontas Community Hospital in Pocahontas, Iowa.

James Martin Myers was born on May 20, 1936 in Humboldt, Iowa. He was the son of Martin and Viola (Joiner) Myers. In school he was active in basketball and FFA. Jim graduated from Humboldt High School in 1955. He worked for Berryhill Plumbing in Humboldt for several years. In 1957, Jim married Karon Johnson of Humboldt. He began farming near Gilmore City in 1959. In addition to farming, Jim worked at Dodgen Industries in the feed box division as a welder. On November 20, 1983, Jim married Marilyn Connell Welty at Resurrection Catholic Church in Pocahontas. In 1985, Jim and Marilyn moved to Dakota City. In 1990, he retired from farming and became the Street Superintendent for the City of Dakota City as well as the Water Superintendent. In 1999, he worked for ADF in Humboldt as an assembler of high-pressure washers. Jim and Marilyn moved back to Pocahontas in 2003 and he retired in 2005.

Jim was a member of the Resurrection of Our Lord Catholic Church. He enjoyed gardening, Hawkeye sports and camping with Marilyn. He especially enjoyed his children and grandchildren's activities and sporting events and in later years, visits from his grandchildren.

Even though Jim was not actively engaged in farming, he continued to enjoy all aspects of farming and liked to visit about all of the changes taking place in farming. You could take him off the farm -- but could not take the farmer out of him.

Survivors include his wife, Marilyn; children, Dave (Deanne) Myers of Humboldt, Michael Myers of Gilmore City, Tim (Cindy) Myers of Dakota City, Al Myers of Humboldt, Christine Jensen of Harcourt and Pam (Kevin) Barkley of Lehigh; Marilyn's children, Francis (Cheryl) Welty of Pocahontas, Barb (Rick) Lamb of Sergeant Bluff, Diane (Dan) Frerk of Gilmore City and JoAnn (Al) Zdrazil of Pocahontas; 28 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren and brothers, Jerry (Betty) Myers and Roger Myers all of Humboldt.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Viola; sister-in-law, Sheila Myers and many aunts and uncles.
