James William "Buck" Stauffer, age 84, passed away at his home near Varina, Iowa, on Monday, February 5, 2024.

There is no funeral service or visitation. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.

James William Stauffer was born in Muscatine, Iowa on January 23, 1940 to Cecil and Thelma (Sieh) Stauffer.

He married Marlene Edwards on July 13, 1957 in Muscatine. From this union, 3 daughters were born. Julie, Kelly and Connie. They later divorced. On March 2, 1972, he married Mary Westmoreland in Muscatine. Another daughter, Kathy, was added.

Buck loved to live a simple life. His passion was horses. He trained racehorses and enjoyed entering barrel racing He also enjoyed county fairs. You would often see him at horse auctions. Buck knew how to pick winners for the Kentucky Derby.

James is survived by his wife of over 51 years, Mary of Varina; his 4 daughters, Julie and Katie Stauffer, Kelly See and Connie (Bruce Doak); his grandchildren, Jessica Stauffer, Cody (Jaslin Luna) See, Emilee Marler, Anastasia and Ariah Stauffer, all of Muscatine. He was excited to learn that he was going to be a great grandpa in March. Buck came from a large family. His sisters: Shirley Workman and Betty Blake of Muscatine, Nancy (Jim) Smith of Grandview, Linda (Gary) Papenheim of Cedar Falls and Judy Rebmann of Chewelah, Washington, and his brothers: Tom (Ruth) of Muscatine and Don (Debbie) Stauffer of Lisbon, Ohio.

He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Richard Stauffer and Barbara Harrison, and his son-in-law, Richard See.
