Janelle Pieters, age 89, of Lake City, IA, passed away on Monday, March 30, 2026, at Stewart Memorial Community Hospital in Lake City.  Janelle LeAnn was born on October 14, 1936, to parents Lester and Louise (Itzen) Harken in Colfax Township, Holland, IA.  She grew up in the Holland area on the family farm, where she attended grade school and graduated from the Grundy Center High School in 1954.

On February 15, 1957, Janelle was united in marriage to James A. Pieters at Bethany Presbyterian Church in Grundy Center.  This union was blessed with three children: Jan, Jill, and Jay.  Janelle worked several jobs throughout her life, including Spokesman-Press, Grundy Register, Clatonis, Park Place, and Grundy Center Preschool and Daycare. In between her jobs, she helped on the farm.  She was very active within her church and a part of the ladies' circle, and also a member of the Pork Producers and 4H.  Janelle enjoyed knitting, going on cruises, water aerobics, and having coffee with the ladies. She loved to bake for her family and friends, and was known for her potato salad and pancakes. Most of all, Janelle loved spending time with her family.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Jan (Steve) Craven of Goose Creek, SC, Jill (Jamie) Westcott of Lohrville, IA, and Jay (Tana) Pieters of Waverly, IA; grandchildren: Kilynn, Delanie, and Kordel Westcott, and Nathan and Brody Pieters; siblings: Gilda (Russ) Smith of Iowa Falls, IA, Jolene Harken of Grundy Center, IA, Kathy (Jay) Mackie of DeWitt, IA, Bill (Diane) Harken of Grundy Center, IA; in-laws: Sheryl (Dave) Mull of Steamboat Rock, IA, Dean (Carol) Pieters of West Des Moines, IA, and Leland (Bev) Pieters of Steamboat Rock, IA and many nieces and nephews.

Janelle was preceded in death by her husband James Pieters; parents; sister Carol McLaughlin, and brother-in-laws Bruce McLaughlin and Howard Pieters.

A Memorial Service will be at 10:00 am Saturday, April 4, 2026, at the Lake City Union Church. Visitation will be 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Friday at the Lampe and Powers Funeral Home in Lake City, Iowa.
