Jerome E. Hronek – age 101, of Pocahontas, formerly of Prescott, Arizona, passed away Sunday, December 6, 2020, at the Pocahontas Manor in Pocahontas, Iowa.

Jerome Emanuel Hronek was born on June 18, 1919, at Pocahontas, Iowa. He was the son of Wesley and Mary (Hotovec) Hronek. He attended grade school at Country School and graduated from Pocahontas Public School in 1941. In 1945, Jerome was drafted into the United States Army and served proudly during World War II. He was stationed in Hawaii for three years. During that time he was transported to Iwo Jima following the conquest of those islands and later was stationed in the Philippines. After being discharged, Jerome attended Electronic School in Washington D.C. and taught there. He returned to Iowa and worked at Collins Radio in Cedar Rapids. He later moved to Scottsdale, Arizona where he worked at Motorola until his retirement in 1978. During retirement Jerome enjoyed living on his acreage and eventually across the street from his sister, Evelyn, in Prescott, Arizona. In 2017 Jerome moved back to Pocahontas.

Jerome was instrumental in developing several projects for the government, including work on bomb fuses. His team received awards for achievements in the scientific fields of the project. Jerome enjoyed watching sports and reading. He was a member of the Resurrection of Our Lord Catholic Church, He was a devout Catholic and left much of his wealth to the church.

Survivors include his sixteen nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Irene Drobney and Evelyn Groff and a brother, Valerian Hronek.
