Jo Murphy – age 87, of Ruthven, formerly of Hampton, passed away on Thursday, November 26, 2020, at the Ruthven Community Care Center in Ruthven, Iowa.

Vera "Jo" Joan Metcalf was born March 16, 1933, in Curtis, Michigan. She was the daughter of George and Vira (Humphrey) Metcalf. She attended school in Montpelier, OH and graduated in 1951. On June 22, 1951, Jo was united in marriage to Rex Murphy. The couple moved to Hampton, Iowa in 1963, where they made their home. Jo worked as a waitress and in retail. She often prepared and hosted meals for her husband's truck customers. She often said her cooking sold more trucks than Rex. After her divorce in 1993, Jo moved around with her daughter to be close to family.

She enjoyed camping, fishing, was an avid dog lover, and loved watching NASCAR, especially Jeff Gordon. She was knowledgeable about anything that had to do with flowers, birds and dogs.

Survivors include her daughter, Beverly (Dennis) Hanna of Humboldt; grandson, Phillip (Leslie) Johnston; granddaughters, Shelby (Corey) McLaughlin and Samantha Murphy; great-grandsons, Xander and Elliot Johnston, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Jo was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Donald Metcalf and Robert Metcalf and a son, Danny Ray Murphy.
