JoAnn B. Kemp – age 83, of Laurens, passed away on Monday, November 25, 2019, at the St. Luke Lutheran Home in Spencer, Iowa.

JoAnn Beverly Simington was born on May 31, 1936 in Spencer, Iowa She was the daughter of Charles and Clementine (Smith) Simington. She graduated from Ruthven High School in 1953. On December 4, 1954, JoAnn was united in marriage to Darold Kemp at the First Methodist Church in Sioux Falls, SD. The couple lived in Marathon before settling in Laurens where she was a homemaker. In the late 1980's she began a quilting business. Darold passed away in 1993 JoAnn continued to live in Laurens until moving to Spencer in 2012.

JoAnn was a member of the United Methodist Church, Ladies Circle and the V.F.W. Auxiliary. She enjoyed quilting and having coffee with her lady friends. JoAnn and Darold spent a lot of time camping and traveling over the years.

Survivors include her daughters, Julie (Rodney) Birchard of Spencer, Jill (David) Rink of Eugene, OR, and Jayne (Alax) Johnson of Webb; 18 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren; sister, Doris Anderson of Spencer and brother, Dan (Mary Ann) Simington of Pella; sons-in-law, Todd Dolphin of Iowa City, Dean McDermitt of Anthon and Lonnie Lawman of Livermore.

JoAnn was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Darold; daughters, Janeen, Jacque and Janelle; two grandchildren; brothers, Jim Simington, Chuck Simington and Larry Dean Simington and sisters, Opal Swanson and Cleo Hauge.
